(CHICAGO) Bond has been denied for a purported Chicago gang member charged with shooting a federal agent in the face.
A judge believes Ernesto Godinez is dangerous and that is why he will remain behind bars. He is accused of shooting an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives during an investigation on May 4.
The 28-year old was arrested last week and is charged with forcible assault on the agent.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Eichenseer says Godinez has participated in multiple gang-related shootings and made a “calculated plan to ambush a group of people from behind with a burst of gunfire.”
Defense Attorney Lawrence Hyman says there is no evidence that Godinez shot the agent, who is expected to fully recover.
