(CHICAGO) Two students from the Parkland, Florida high school where 17 students were killed joined Good Kids, Mad City protesters to oppose Mayor Emanuel’s new $95 million police and fire academy.
Parkland March for our Lives activists Sophie Whitney and Alex Wind said listen to the No Cop Academy Protesters.
Whitney: “More police isn’t gonna fix the problem. What’s gonna fix the problem is giving these kids the resources they need to be kids and have a childhood to grow up and have a good life. But now they’re getting neglected and it’s not okay and we’re not gonna let it happen.”
Wind: “Everyone’s voice needs to be heard and everyone needs to listen including our government, especially our government. They’re supposed to be working for the people and instead, they’re working for themselves. Nobody in this city needs another cop academy.”
But Mayor Emanuel and most of the aldermen defend the new police and fire training facility because it is recommended the Department of Justice report on police accountability.
