(CHICAGO) In the race for mayor, challenger Paul Vallas is using the draft of the Chicago Police Consent Decree against Mayor Emanuel.
Vallas argues the consent decree isn’t so much about police reform as it is about Rahm’s competence, “I think the consent decree is a real indictment of this administration. When you have to pass a consent decree that tells you you need to train your officers, that you need to have a 1 to 30 ratio of sergeants, that they need to have the right supervisory staff, that they need to have the right equipment and training about how to use that equipment, you’ve to to say “What the heck!” I mean, do we really need to be told things that are commonplace in other police departmentts?”
Vallas said so at a press conference to promise he’d raise the number of paramedic ambulances from 75 to 100, but just as he said it, the mayor announced five more ambulances bringing the total to 80.
The Emanuel campaign, by the way, was video taping Vallas’s presser.
