(CHICAGO) At City Hall, former Governor Pat Quinn filed his petitions at the deadline to ask Chicago voters in November if they want a limit of two terms on Chicago mayors.
Quinn filed more than 86,000 signatures, but that’s not double the minimum generally needed to withstand a challenge. Even if gets his referendum, Mayor Emanuel’s campaign says it would not apply to Rahm because he’s already campaigning for a third term. Quinn says Rahm’s wrong on the law.
“In the case in Broadview in 2016,”sayd Quinn,”they put a referendum on the ballot in November, the mayor said he wanted to stay and the supreme court say no, the referendum takes precedence and the mayor had to not run again. He was ineligible to run.”
So a court fight is coming where establishment Democrats like Rahm Emanuel usually win.
