(CHICAGO) At a “Back to School Bash,” Mayor Emanuel today was “celebrating” a new achievement for the Chicago Public Schools.
Rahm says “more high school students are staying in school than ever before, with the one-year dropout rate at an all-time low of 6.4 percent.”
“Let me tell you what that means,” Emanuel remarked, “It means that young men and women aren’t giving up on themselves anymore. It means they’ve got a future worth fighting for, struggling for and sacrificing for. And it means we’re not just saying it’s not just on our teachers and our principals. It means that what you do with after-school, summer jobs, the mentoring that goes on. It means what’s going on about what kids think about themselves internally.”
And the achievement helps the mayor spin the news cycle away from the horrible sex abuse scandal at CPS.
