(CHICAGO) Toni Preckwinkle is hitting back at Garry McCarthy’s claim that she’s too soft on crime.
McCarthy says “It is difficult to identify a person more accountable for the wholesale slaughter of African Americans in this city than Toni Preckwinkle.”
But Preckwinkle says the figures prove him wrong, “Since March of 2018, about 89% of the people who were released on their own recognizance showed up for their trials and hearings and about 91% did not pick up a new charge.”
Here’s what she says causes street violence, “I’ve said repeatedly the communities that are the most violent are the ones in which we have either poorly performing schools or schools that have been closed or high levels of poverty, high levels of unemployment or low levels of educational attainment.”
