Health officials in Minnesota are warning parents about a ‘polio-like’ disease that has infected six children so far.
The disease is called acute flaccid myelitis, or AFM, and can cause weakness and paralysis in the arms and legs. AFM is very rare, but six children under the age of 10 in Minnesota have been diagnosed with AFM in the last 30 days.
Symptoms of AFM can include sudden weakness in the arms or legs, drooping eyelids or slurring speech. Doctors recommend getting your children vaccinated, keeping your hands clean, and avoiding mosquito bites.
