In a move that may help his popularity with farmers, President Trump is expected to relax federal regulations on ethanol-based gasoline.
Sales of high-ethanol blends are currently banned in the summer, but Trump wants to lift that ban to allow year-round sales of 15 percent ethanol gas.
The move could be seen as a gesture towards corn farmers, at a time when many have been impacted by the Trump administration’s tariff wars.
The EPA says high-ethanol fuels can contribute to smog in the summertime.
