Today is the day where students get to experience what we all had to do when we were younger: walk to school uphill, both ways, with only shoeboxes to cover our feet.
And while perhaps things are a little less harsh than we remember, very few children actually do use their own two legs to get there before the bell rings.
Thousands of districts across the United States are participating in International Walk to School Day, along with over 40 counties which sees students walking and biking to the classroom.
The goal of the annual event, according to the Tulsa Public School, is to help “raise awareness of the need for safe routes for walking and bicycling and to emphasize the importance of physical activity.”
