An Ocala, Florida man has been sentenced to 40 years behind bars for a plot to bomb Target stores.
Prosecutors say Mark Charles Barnett had crafted at least 10 homemade bombs hidden inside boxes of pasta or breakfast bars. He then tried to hire someone to place those boxes on store shelves in Target stores in New York, Virginia, and Florida.
Barnett’s hope was that the bomb attacks would drop Target’s stock price, allowing him to buy shares on the cheap. He reportedly said “some people have got to get hurt for me to make some money”.
