(CHICAGO) At O’Hare Thursday morning, city officials are dedicating one of the airport’s four towers in the name of the late Congressman and Alderman Roman Pucinski.
Bill Cameron covered the ever-quotable Pucinski.
He remembers that Pucinski was called “Pooch.”
“Pooch” was a former newspaper reporter turned Congressman before he became an alderman. He once got about a third of the vote for mayor.
One of his big moments in the limelight was on the Daley Plaza in 1989. He was welcoming Polish leader Lech Walesa to Chicago, “Lech Walesa has shown time and time again that one man with courage is indeed a majority!”
As a congressman, Pooch helped get black box flight recorders in all commercial aircraft and so they’re naming the I.M. Pei-designed tower between Terminal 2 and the Hilton in his honor.
