National Security Advisor John Bolton says that President Donald Trump has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to Washington.
The idea of a second Trump-Putin summit was floated back in July. However, that plan was scuttled amid an outcry from politicians who thought the timing was bad given the investigation into Russian meddling into the 2016 election hadn’t been completed.
Trump and Putin met previously in Helsinki, Finland. Trump came under fire following that summit for a perceived cozying up to Putin.
Bolton held a news conference in ex-Soviet Georgia on Friday, just days after meeting with Putin. “We have invited President Putin to Washington.”
