Just minutes after taking off from Jakarta airport, a Lion Air plane carrying 189 passengers plunged into the sea on Monday.
Less than three minutes into the hour-and-ten-minute flight to Pangkal Pinang, the pilot asked to return to the airport. Ten minutes later, the aircraft went down.
One official admitted that the brand new plane had a technical difficulty on its previous flight, but that it had been repaired.
Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency has enlisted 300 people to aid in the search and rescue operation, but so far no bodies have been recovered, just personal items and debris.
