(CHICAGO) Now that we know City Hall delayed full disclosure that some newly water-metered homes have elevated levels of lead, there’s big pressure for a solution.
Getting the lead out will be the next mayor’s $2 billion problem.
So far, only one of the candidates has a comprehensive solution: Paul Vallas, who says “Doing things as simple as mandatory testing. Doing things such as identifying and distributing filtration devices. Doing things as simple as changing your priorities so that the monies that are available begin to get the lead out of the pipes that connect you with the main line.”
So Vallas thinks he can do it without raising any taxes. Some of the aldermen want to make the SELLERS of real estate pay a 1% transfer tax to pay for this.
