After voters in Washington state shot a carbon tax down, every state in the nation continues to be free of such a tax.
Companies involved with fossil fuels would have had to pay a tax equal to $15 for every metric ton of carbon if the policy had been passed.
The mandate had a lot of financial backing after coverage on the proposed tax went international.
Fossil fuel companies fought the tax saying that it would adversely impact financially struggling families.
Each household in the state would have had to pay $440 more in the first year if the tax had passed.
