(CHICAGO) Now that all of the petition challenges have been filed in the race for mayor, lawyers will be making some ridiculous arguments to knock a candidate off the ballot.
To give you an idea of how ridiculous some of the arguments will be, listen to Jim Allen at Board of Elections.
“The signatures, there’s residency requirements, did they file the right paperwork, did they file their Statement of Economic Interest with the county clerk’s office or statement of candidacy, whether or not the pages were numbered, whether they were bound properly, whether individuals signed the petition more than once – those don’t count towards the total – whether they’re registered to vote at all, whether they’re registered to vote in that ward, whether they’re not registered to vote at the address they put down, whether the signature is genuine. So, there’s all kinds of various ways that people can trip-up.”
Cameron: So, it’s kind of a candidate-suppression program?
Allen: No, it’s the law!”
