Utah residents will want to ease up on the booze this New Year’s – because the state’s DUI rules just got a lot stricter.
Effective Dec. 30th, Utah is lowering the blood alcohol limit for DUI from .08 to .05, the first state in the U.S. to do so.
That’s a significant dropoff – a man weighing 180 pounds needs only two drinks to reach a BAC of .05 – even less for most women.
Some are blaming Utah’s large Mormon population for the move, but the National Traffic Safety Board has been calling for a .05 limit for years.
