(CHICAGO) At City Hall, the new soccer stadium planned for the big Lincoln Yards development on the North Side to be owned by the Cubs’ Tom Ricketts is NOT going to happen.
Brian Hopkins, the local alderman, is exercising his aldermanic perogative to reject not only the soccer stadium but also the entertainment arena that developer Sterling Bay wanted.
“My oppostion to this is based on the traffic densities that a 20,000-seat arena would generate in the immediate neighborhood.”
In place of the stadium, Hopkins wants park space for recreation.
Some of the other aldermen and candidates for mayor want City Hall to slow down the process of allowing the developer to get $800 million of tax increment financing for this.
