The dairy industry will be making a bigger impact on school lunches moving forward. This could mean more salt, sugar and fat being including in kids’ lunches.
The Obama-era changes to school lunches provided healthier alternatives, but those have started to be rolled back.
“People are drinking a lot less milk. The dairy industry today is really struggling,” said food and agriculture reporter Lydia Mulvany. “A lot of farmers are not making a profit. Milk prices are really low, so it’s a hard time for the dairy industry.”
Children will begin to see more white breads, pizza as well as the always-loved chocolate milk.
“I wouldn’t be as big as I am today without chocolate milk,” said Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue.
