A representative for the family of the Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann says the family has hired attorney L. Lin Wood of Atlanta after conducting “an extensive search to find a nationally-recognized attorney skilled in the fields of libel, defamation, and the First Amendment.”
Wood is a high-profile attorney known for taking on the media in defamation cases. Wood’s clients include the brother of JonBenet Ramsey, who sued CBS for $750 million in a defamation suit after a CBS movie suggested Burke Ramsey killed his sister.
Wood also represented Richard Jewell, a man who was wrongly accused of bombing the Olympic Park in Atlanta in 1996. Both Ramsey’s and Jewell’s cases were settled out of court.
Sandmann appeared on NBC’s Today Show earlier this week, declining to apologize to Native American Nathan Philips.
