* Pope Francis has announced that the Vatican will allow full access to its secret archives on wartime Pope Pius XII.
* The long sought move announced Monday is thought to be a step toward sainthood for the former Pope.
* Pius XII was Pope from 1939 to 1958. The Jewish community has held that the Pope didn’t do enough to help during the Holocaust.
* The Vatican says Pius worked behind the scenes and welcomes scrutiny of the archives which will open on March 2, 2020. In the announcement, Pope Francis said the “Church is not afraid of history.”
