A police officer has admitted she was having sex with her supervisor while her daughter was dying in her hot patrol car.
Biloxi resident Cassie Barker, 29, made the confession Monday before agreeing to a plea deal that reduces her original charge of second-degree murder to manslaughter. Prosecutors are recommending a 20-year sentence.
The tragic incident occurred in 2016 when Barker worked as a Long Beach police officer. She originally told investigators she’d been simply talking with her supervisor, Clark Ladner, when her daughter died — but later admitted the two had sex, after which she dozed off. Her daughter, 3-year-old Cheyenne Hyer, had been in the overheated vehicle for more than four hours when her body was discovered.
