In the wake of two high profile plane crashes that claimed the lives of 346 in five months, the federal government is launching a criminal investigation into the safety certification process for Boeing’s 737 Max jets.
According to The Seattle Times , the FBI is now involved, assisting those working on a federal grand jury probe.
The report comes on the heels of a memo sent by Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao on Tuesday asking for an audit of the Federal Aviation Administration’s certificate approval for the Max 8.
Lawmakers will also be looking at aviation safety in general, holding a congressional panel scheduled for next Wednesday.
