Police have identified the person whose racial threatens forced the shutdown of several Virginia schools: a 17-year-old boy.
The juvenile, who hasn’t been identified, was arrested Friday and charged with making threats to commit serious bodily harm to persons on school property, which is a felony, and harassment by computer, a misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident that occurred Wednesday, when the suspect allegedly made “an online threat containing biased-based language targeting specific ethnic groups within Charlottesville High School,” according to a police report. Chief RaShall Brackney noted the remarks were specifically directed toward African American and Hispanic students.
As a result of the threats, the district’s nine schools were closed Thursday and Friday. Classes are expected to resume on Monday.
