A federal ban on ‘bump stocks’ – devices which allow a semi-automatic rifle to fire like a fully automatic weapon – is set to begin on Tuesday.
The Justice Department issed the ban back in December, giving owners 90 days to turn in or destroy their bump stock devices. That period ends on Tuesday, after which possession of a bump stock can be punishable by fines and up to 10 years behind bars.
If you have one, there’s still time to turn it over to an ATF field office. A guide on the best ways to destroy bump stocks can be found at the ATF website www.atf.gov.
