A Phoenix man is dead after he was punched in what police say was an “unprovoked” attack. But it wasn’t the punch that killed him.
The victim, who hasn’t been identified, was struck and killed by a passing vehicle Monday when the punch caused him to fall into traffic, police say.
According to the police report, the victim was walking down a sidewalk when he passed Aaren Derek Shivers, who punched him. Although Shivers told arresting officers he was only defending himself after the victim attacked him, security footage showed the attack was unprovoked. Shivers has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held on a $200,000 bond.
