While most people consider a house of worship to be a safe haven, one New York church proved to be anything but for a 70-year-old woman. She was punched in the face while praying.
The incident occurred Tuesday morning inside St. Monica’s Church in New York’s Upper East Side, police say. The elderly victim was saying prayers when another woman approached her, told her to “shut up” and decked her.
The suspect is believed to be in her 40s or 50s, police say. Surveillance footage shows she was wearing a dark jacket over a black hoodie and carrying a backpack.
