The case of the missing Staten Island teacher has taken yet another unexpected turn. One day after police arrested the estranged husband of Jeanine Cammarata, holding him on an assault charge while they tried to identified her charred body, a new face has come into the picture.
Police on Friday filed second-degree murder charges against Michael Cammarata and Ayisha Egea, who investigators say is Michael Cammarata’s girlfriend. Police have not revealed what role Egea played in the 37-year-old teacher’s murder. They say the medical examiner is working to determine her cause of death.
Michael Cammarata fell under suspicion when security footage showed him leaving his home with a large plastic bag and footage from a different camera showed him bringing it into a local storage facility. Although police recovered a body from the facility on Thursday, it was “burned beyond recognition” and couldn’t be immediately identified.
