A hulking, flightless cassowary bird who recently killed its owner with its daggerlike claws, is going on the auction block. On April 12 the bird killed it’s owner Marvin Hajos after he had fallen between the pens of the bird.
Mr. Hajos who was 75 at the time of his death, kept over 100 hundred exotic animals on his Flordia property. All of the animals including the bird will be for sale.
Cassowaries stand up to six and a half feet tall and can weigh up to 130 pounds. Their muscular legs each have a dangerous claw up to five inches long.
The birds are relatively shy but do have a violent reputation. However, human fatalities appear to be rare, with the last fatality prior to Mr. Hajos being in 1926 when a bird slit the throat of a 16-year-old Australian boy.
