Maria Butina, the 30-year-old Russian operative to tried to infiltrate the NRA and various conservative political connections, was sentenced to 18 months behind bars on Friday.
Prosecutors say Butina, was a gun-rights activist in Russia, was part of a plot to gain influence in conservative circles in Washington D.C., even using sex to gain connections. She helped arrange a 2015 meeting with NRA officials in Moscow.
Butina’s name does not appear in Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 election. She pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to act as an agent of a foreign official and will be deported to Russia once her sentence is complete.
