U.S. Customs and Border Protection says it has apprehended its largest group of illegal migrants yet.
A group of 424 people was taken into custody overnight near Sunland Park, New Mexico. Another group of 230 was apprehended in Antelope Wells, NM two hours later.
CBP says both groups were mainly comprised of “Central American families and unaccompanied juveniles” and said the groups were led by “unscrupulous smugglers”. More than 53,000 families were taken into custody by Border Patrol in March.
