Strong thunderstorms and tornadoes moved through the area Wednesday afternoon and evening, sparking strings of warnings. There were reports of multiple funnel clouds and confirmed touchdowns.
Confirmed tornados were reported near Hodgkins and Summit. The National Weather Service also confirmed a tornado touchdown in Kane County near Campton Hills. NWS also tweeted that a tornado made touchdown near O’Hare and was “touching the ground intermittently.”
A possible funnel cloud was also spotted in South Elgin.
Storm damage has been reported throughout the suburbs including downed trees and debris. High winds caused damage in Aurora. In Huntley, roofs of homes were damaged and torn off, and trees crashed down onto homes and driveways.
Both O’Hare and Midway saw ground stops due to the weather. The ground stop was lifted around 7:45 p.m
