The Hammond city council has approved an ordinance that will require all gas stations in the city to close from midnight to 5am. This comes after several carjackings, robberies and shootings at various stations over the past few months. The new hours will take effect at all 37 gas stations in Hammond starting November first. Gas stations will be able to apply for an exception but citations will be issued for everyday a station is in violation.
