In an effort to address the almost one billion dollar budget shortfall in Chicago, Mayor Johnson has put a a citywide hiring freeze in effect immediately. Budget Director Annette Guzman says there will “stringent limitations” on non-essential travel and overtime expenditures outside of public safety operations. Crain’s reports its not clear how many job vacancies will be affected or how much money the city will save. The Mayor is expected to release his 2025 budget next month.
