(CHICAGO) — Sources say disgraced former congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. will launch a run to return to his former congressional seat.
Several Chicago media outlets are reporting that a colleague confirmed that Jackson will announce his run for the 2nd Congressional District seat later today.
Jackson spent 17 months in prison after being convicted of charges of misusing $750,000 in campaign funds with some of the money used to decorate his congressional office and Washington D.C. home. In one instance, Jackson directed “Person A” to buy two stuffed and mounted elk heads from a Montana taxidermist, using campaign funds, spending a total of more than $7,000. A few months later, Sandi Jackson had “Person A” sell the elk heads for cash to a person who turned out to be an undercover FBI agent.
Sandi Jackson, a former Chicago alderman in the 7th Ward, also pled guilty to misusing campaign funds and served time in prison. The two divorced in 2018.
