(CHICAGO) — Residents of Illinois are joining a handful of other states in using digital ID’s and drivers licenses.
The announcement Tuesday came after Apple unveiled its new “Digital ID” system for users to add their passport information to Apple Wallet, which can be scanned at airport readers. Drivers licenses and state ID’s can also be added ot the wallet after they go through a digital verification process.
According to the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office, Apple users can start loading those ID’s starting today while a roll out for Samsung and Google phones will come next year.
