(Springfield, IL) — As the Illinois House convenes in Springfield, the Illinois Freedom Caucus is warning that Illinois families cannot afford a repeat of the political theater that dominated the Spring session in 2025.
The Illinois Freedom Caucus is calling on the majority party to waste less time on rants about Washington D.C. politics and take decisive action to lower taxes, create jobs, and make communities safer.
The Illinois Freedom Caucus issued the following statement:
“It is time to focus on the issues that matter. The Democrats have made their hatred for President Trump clear through the daily deluge of anti-Trump rhetoric on the House floor this past year. These incoherent speeches do nothing for the people of Illinois.
Hatred for the President is not a valid excuse for Illinois Democrats to refuse to opt into the federal ‘No Tax on Tips and Overtime’ policies and preventing Illinois’ children from benefiting from the education tax credit under HR1. It is time to put petty politics aside and do what is right for the people of Illinois.
We need to reform the SAFE-T Act to expand the list of detainable offenses pre-trial in Illinois. We also need to focus on ensuring Illinois residents have access to affordable and reliable energy. Finally, Illinois needs to help struggling families by suspending the automatic motor fuel tax increases.
We have an opportunity to make the 2026 spring session less about grandstanding and more about the people we are elected to represent. Let’s not waste it.”
