(WASHINGTON, D.C,) — Job growth continued to strengthen in April with 115,000 new hires while the unemployment rate stayed at 4.3%. Economists had estimated a median gain of 65,000 jobs following March’s huge increase of 178,000 roles, which was revised to 185,000.
According to data from ADP, private employers added 109,000 jobs in April, the fastest monthly gain since January 2025.
Meanwhile, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, the non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the Chicago metro area increased to 5.0 percent in March 2026 from 4.9 percent in March 2025.
