(CHICAGO) — The family of a Chicago police officer says he is luck to be alive after an attack Tuesday night in the McKinley Park neighborhood.
Police officials say CPD Officer Kevin Mangan was repeatedly punched in the face with brass knuckles while he was on duty.
Mangan had responded to 37th and Marshfield after three people pulled up and blocked an ambulance from leaving a separate scene. As he was writing tickets, Mangan was attacked.
A 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were later taken into custody. Officials say Mangan was so badly beaten that his teeth were knocked out.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
