(CHICAGO) — DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin is raising eyebrows with a potential plan to pull CBP officers out of airports in sanctuary cities telling FOX News the agency is drawing up plans to carry out such a proposal.
“In these sanctuary cities where the local radical left Democrats aren’t allowing us to do our job and enforce federal laws, then we shouldn’t be processing international flights into their cities,” Mullin said.
The threat comes as Democrats have refused to fund CBP for over three months. Such a move would halt all international travel into airports in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, and Philly, as there would be no customs agents to process international travelers.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy threw cold water on the idea. “We have people from around the country that need to be able to fly into all different kinds of places. We shouldn’t shut down air travel in a state that doesn’t agree with our politics.” Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN) told FOX News on Tuesday he believes the proposal would potentially benefit red states since an influx of passengers would be forced to fly into jurisdictions that cooperate with ICE. California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office previously criticized the idea and warned it would paralyze the travel industry.
