(CHICAGO) — At least 38 people were shot and wounded and eight people fatally shot in weekend shootings across Chicago.
The worst incident was a mass shooting late Friday night in the Roseland neighborhood where police say a vehicle pulled up and two people inside opened fire, spraying a crowd with at least 100 rounds. The shooting unfolded around 11 p.m. in the 200 block of West 95th street. Officials say 13 people were wounded in that incident. The victims range in age from 17 to 47. So far no one is in custody.
The violence caught the attention of President Donald J. Trump who took to social media Sunday morning, saying in part, “Why isn’t Governor Pritzker calling me for help. I could make Chicago a safe city…”
Chicago leaders are calling for a new gun violence prevention department after the deadly weekend.
