(CHICAGO) — Save A Lot grocery stores is looking to close seven location including a location in the Englewood neighborhood. The company says it recently ended a management agreement with Yellow Banana, which operated the seven location. The company cites amid financial challenges involving Yellow Banana and declining SNAP usage.
Just three years ago Chicago provided $13.5 million in tax-increment financing to support Save A Lot stores in areas that are considered to be food deserts.
The city is working with Save A Lot and Yellow Banana to find new investors but if no buyers are found the stores will close on Saturday.
