(CHICAGO) — The Chicago Teachers Union on Tuesday threw its support behind Mayor Brandon Johnson for re-election.
“CTU members are extremely excited to back Mayor Johnson for re-election. This election is about whether Black and working families have a future in Chicago and it’s a simple choice,” said the CTU Political Action Committee in a press release. “We have Mayor Johnson who has delivered more than a billion dollars for schools, parks, and libraries and invested in our communities to make them safer or the candidates pledging cuts and school closings three times the size of what we experienced under Rahm Emanuel. No Chicagoan is interested in going backward to those times. Our students have a better school day when they are well-fed, with a roof over their head, and the staff they need to support their learning in their schools. Other candidates are campaigning to take that away from our students, Mayor Brandon Johnson has proven time and again to be the mayor for the people of Chicago.”
It was the CTU’s support that helped Johnson win his first term.
