A U.S. attorney reportedly has filed a motion to cancel an arrest warrant for a Jan. 6 defendant apprehended in Canada earlier this month.
Antony Vo, from Bloomington, Indiana, was arrested Jan. 6 “without incident” in Whistler, British Columbia. He faced a nine-month prison sentence for taking part in the events at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
On Monday, WISH reported the U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C., filed a motion to rescind the arrest warrant for Vo, who now can return to the U.S. without facing arrest.
Vo was among roughly 1,500 Jan. 6 defendants pardoned by President Donald Trump soon after taking office on Jan. 20.
Before his arrest, Vo told WISH that he had no intention of turning himself in to serve his sentence, believing Trump would pardon every Jan. 6 defendant upon taking office.
A jury convicted Vo of four misdemeanors after a trial in September 2023. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington, D.C., sentenced Vo in April and ordered him to report to prison on June 14.
Vo did not keep a low profile after absconding. On social media, he frequently posted about his case and promoted conspiracy theories about the Jan. 6 attack.
Vo also has used social media to taunt and criticize the judge who sentenced him, claiming he was “wrongfully convicted by a kangaroo court.”
“My entire family hated Chutkan! It’s like we could sense the commie in her,” Vo posted in December.
A Saskatchewan-based immigration attorney aided Vo in reaching Canada. A Canada Border Services Agency reported having no record of Vo entering the country at any “official port of entry.”
Vo’s mother also faced charges for her role in the Capitol attack before Trump’s pardon, WISH reported.
