Judy Pielach

Born and raised in Bucktown, award-winning journalist Judy Pielach has spent her life covering the news that matters in Chicago. Her career at WGN AM spanned more than three decades, where she covered numerous high profile stories, from shootings, to plane crashes to corruption trials. While breaking news has always been her strong suit, she’s also spent manyi years in courtrooms, on city streets and at political rallies.

At various times in her career, Judy has been a News Anchor, Reporter, Managing Editor, Assignment Editor, Education Reporter, Crime Reporter, Courtroom Reporter and Show Host. She has also worked on various “Special Assignments.”

Judy has won numerous prestigious awards, including two Edward R. Murrow Regional Awards for Best Series. One, “Smack in the Suburbs,” was on heroin use. The other, “Why Not Me?” chronicled her battle with Breast Cancer. She’s also won several awards for Best Reporter, Best Newscast, Best News Series and Best Feature Series.

A longtime resale shop fanatic, Judy is also the “Good Buy Girl,” hosting a video series featuring her quest to find hidden treasures and show viewers how to recycle and reuse.

Judy is a big supporter of giving back and donates her time to charitable organizations whenever possible. Lift ‘Em Up, The Hideout’s Soup and Bread, Toys for Tots and Poised for Success are a few of her favorites. She also enjoys speaking to groups, including schools, charities and local governments.

She is a proud graduate of the FBI’s Citizen Academy and is an alum of Southern Illinois University, where she majored in Radio/TV with a minor in Political Science.
