Musician’s van burglarized during West Loop performance

(CHICAGO) A musician’s van was burglarized as she was performing at the City Winery in the West Loop Monday night.

Country artist Amanda Shires tweeted Monday that during her performance at the venue, located in the 1200 block of West Randolph, someone stole her MacBook computer, notebook and songwriting materials, ukulele and violin strings, among other things.

Chicago Police said the burglary was reported about 11:45 p.m. when a man returned to the vehicle and found its passenger side window was broken and property was taken from within.

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.

$1,000 reward offered for details on Naperville burglary

(NAPERVILLE) Naperville Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about a residential burglary reported Sunday in the west suburb.

The break-in happened between 2 and 7 p.m. in the 1100 block of Muirhead Avenue, according to a statement from Naperville police. Someone forced entry and stole jewelry, credit cards and an undetermined amount of coins from the home.

A neighbor saw a suspicious person in front of the home about 5 p.m., police said. The neighbor saw the same man walking between the homes from the backyard toward the street about 6:30 p.m., and he was last seen walking north on Hyde Park from Muirhead.

The suspect was described as a 6-foot-tall white man in his late 30s with a stocky build and short, dirty blond hair, according to police. He was wearing a reddish-orange short-sleeve shirt with black sleeves, black pants and black shoes.

Anyone with information about the break-in or the suspect is asked to contact Naperville Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006. All callers may remain anonymous, and a reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

Suspects Charged in Lake View Arson and Burglary

Bail set at $150K for Lake View man charged with arson

(CHICAGO) Bail was set at $150,000 Wednesday for a 24-year-old man charged with arson in Lake View on the North Side.

Officers saw Colin Weis setting fire to a couch Tuesday that was placed near recycled oil kept outside a Lake View restaurant at 2:50 a.m. in the 900 block of West Belmont, according to Chicago Police.

Damage was limited and no one was hurt, police said.

Weis, who lives in the 3200 block of North Clark, was arrested at the scene and charged with a felony count of arson.

Weis is scheduled to appear in court next May 31.

Bail set at $75K for man charged with Lake View burglary attempt

(CHICAGO) Bail was set at $75,000 on Wednesday for a man charged with breaking into and attempting to burglarize a Lake View neighborhood home on the North Side.

David Smith, 34, of the 4900 block of North Kenmore, faces one felony count of attempted residential burglary and one misdemeanor count of criminal trespass to land, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

About 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, officers spotted Smith running away from a backyard in the 3200 block of North Seminary, police said.

At the home, a chair had been placed under a window, the window was opened and items were removed in an attempt to make it easier for the burglar to climb inside, police said. Smith was found hiding in a garage nearby and was subsequently identified as the would-be burglar.

Smith is scheduled to appear in court next May 31.

Police: Cash, whiskey stolen in Woodstock bar burglary

(WOODSTOCK) Police in northwest suburban Woodstock are looking for two men who broke into a bar early Thursday to steal cash and a bottle of whiskey.

Two suspects forced entry to Liquid Blues Bar, 126 N. Benton St. in Woodstock, in the early morning hours of March 10, according to a statement from Woodstock police. They stole an undisclosed amount of money and a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey.

The suspects were described as white men in their early-to-mid-20s with average heights and builds, police said. Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to contact the Woodstock Police Criminal Investigations Division at (815) 338-2131.

Police warn of retail burglaries in Lake View, North Center

(CHICAGO) Two retails burglaries in the Lake View and North Center neighborhoods in the last month have prompted police to issue an alert to businesses in the North Side neighborhoods.

According to the alert issued by Area North detectives, the burglaries occurred in the 4000 block of North Lincoln about 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 26 and in the 1200 block of West Belmont on Feb. 23 about 1:40 a.m.

In the Lincoln Avenue burglary, the suspect was described as a black man between 25 and 30 years old, police said. He stands 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9 and weights 250 pounds.

In the Belmont Avenue burglary, the suspect was described as a black man between 35 and 45 years old, police said. He stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 220 pounds.

CPD Commander apprehends McKinley Park burglars

(CHICAGO) The commander of the Chicago Police Department’s Deering District (9th) caught two burglary suspects as he was driving through the McKinley Park neighborhood Tuesday morning, police said.

Cmdr. Daniel J. Godsel was on his way to drop off a custom notification letter — a hand-delivered warning to people the CPD believes are most likely to be involved in violent crime — about 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, police said. While driving, he heard a dispatch call of a burglary in progress in the 1600 block of West 38th Place.

Godsel drove to the home and noticed pry marks on the front door and found two men inside the home, who he was able to detain, police said.

Israel Diaz, 25, of the 5700 block of South California, and George Milero, 38, of the 3400 block of West 60th Place, were each charged with one count of felony burglary, police said. Diaz was also charged with one felony count of possession of burglary tools.

Diaz was ordered held on $75,000 bond Wednesday, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. Milero’s court information was not immediately available.

Police investigating school burglaries in Uptown, North Center

(CHICAGO) Police are investigating two burglaries that happened after-hours at North Side schools in the past two months.

Both schools had electronics stolen and property damaged, Area North detectives said in a community alert issued Wednesday.

The first burglary happened March 16, at a school in the 2500 block of West Addison in the North Center neighborhood. Authorities believe the burglary happened between 1:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., police said.

In that incident, the burglars are described as four people who were riding BMX-style bicycles, police said.

Another burglary happened in the 4400 block of North Magnolia in the Uptown neighborhood, police said.

That incident happened between Friday and Monday over the Memorial Day weekend, sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 7:15 a.m., police said.

Police warn of North Center garage burglaries

(CHICAGO) Police are warning residents of the North Center neighborhood about a string of recent garage burglaries.

In four recent incidents, burglars stole property from garages, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

The burglaries happened:
• at an unknown time between April 3 and 7 in the 1900 block of West Roscoe;
• between 5:30 p.m. April 5 and 6:30 a.m. April 6 in the 1900 block of West Newport;
• between 7 p.m. April 5 and 8:30 a.m. April 6 in the 3400 block of North Leavitt; and
• between 6:30 p.m. April 16 and 8 a.m. April 17 in the 2200 block of West Melrose.

Gold Coast store burglarized in early morning hours

(CHICAGO) Police are searching for someone who allegedly broke into a Gold Coast shop early Friday.

About 5 a.m., the suspect somehow entered through the front door of the business in the 0-99 block of East Oak Street, smashed displayed and took merchandise, police said.

No one was in custody as of 7:45 a.m., police said.

The Montcler boutique at 33 E. Oak St. was burglarized in a similar way in September 2014. Four men associated with the Gangster Disciples street gang were charged with that burglary and a string of others in March, totaling to a $2 million spree, authorities told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Reward offered in Naperville bar burglary

(NAPERVILLE) A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect who burglarized a west suburban Naperville bar in November.

Sometime between Nov. 26 and Nov. 27, Thanksgiving Day, someone forced entry into Peanuts Bar & Grill, 22 W. Chicago Ave., and stole “a large amount of cash” from the restaurant’s office, according to a statement from Naperville Crime Stoppers.

The burglary most likely occurred after 2 a.m., when the bars were closed for the evening, the statement said.

Anyone with information on the burglary should call Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006. Callers can remain anonymous and qualify for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
