Stolen laptop leads police to marijuana in Fox Lake

(FOX LAKE) A 22-year-old north suburban man was charged after police looking for a stolen laptop found more than a pound of marijuana in his home Monday.

Police executed a search warrant for a home in the 100 block of Arthur Avenue in Fox Lake looking for a laptop computer reported stolen in early January in Lincolnshire, according to a statement from Lincolnshire police.

While searching the home of Kyle Bozovsky, police found 536 grams of marijuana in several containers in the home and his vehicle, Fox Lake police said. Police also seized $2,500 in cash found in a safe at the home where marijuana was also found.

Bozovsky was charged with felony possession of marijuana and felony possession of stolen property, police said.

Bond was set at $100,000 and Bozovsky was scheduled to appear in court again May 29.

Fox Lake police are continuing their investigation and more charges could be added.

Fox Lake Lieutenant killed with own weapon

It’s still slow going in the investigation into the death of a suburban Chicago police officer who was shot while pursuing three suspects, but a few new details were released Thursday.

Commander George Filinko of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force confirms that Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was shot with his own gun and there were indications of a struggle at the scene, but the results of a gun shot residue test aren’t very revealing.

“The weapon could’ve been fired by Lt. Gliniewica or he could have been in a close proximity of the weapon being fired,” Filenko said.

Officials are still running DNA tests and awaiting ballistic test results. They say Gliniewicz was at the scene on foot 20 minutes prior to being shot. He had previously been asked to keep an eye on the area because of vandalism.

Filenko says they are still investigating Gliniewicz’s death as a homicide.

Cops: New test results don’t give final answer in slain Fox Lake cop case

(CHICAGO) Lake County investigators have received reports on tests for gunshot residue and ballistics in the case of slain Fox Lake officer Charles Joseph Gliniewicz and the results “do not support or exclude any specific theory in this investigation,” the Sun-Times is reporting.

Lake County Sheriff’s spokesman Detective Christopher Covelli declined on Monday to reveal the results of those tests, citing the pending investigation of the death of Gliniewicz, who was found shot to death on Sept. 1 in an isolated area in the Far North suburb.

The death sparked a massive manhunt that has failed so far to produce any suspects. Police have acknowledged that they have not ruled out the possibility of suicide.

Covelli also said there was DNA from an unknown individual discovered in several locations at the scene, and the quality of one of the samples is good enough to run through a database of known offenders.

Investigators met with Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd on Monday. Questions were raised in the case after the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Rudd had not been made aware of a meeting earlier this month between police and his pathologist on the case.

Rudd’s absence from the meeting came as investigators took the highly unusual step of criticizing the coroner in a news release and at press conference for releasing limited information about the case.

Covelli described the meeting on Monday as going “very well.”

“It was to share information and to make sure we’re all on the same page,” Covelli said.
