(CHICAGO) All babies born at any Advocate hospital during the month of February will receive a handmade, knitted red hat in recognition of National Wear Red Day and American Heart Month.

The Little Hats, Big Hearts initiative is designed to raise awareness about heart disease, the number one killer of Americans, and congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the country, according to a statement from Advocate Hospitals.

The hats are made by volunteers from all over the world, Advocate said.

“Anything we can do to raise awareness of heart disease and cardiovascular health is a good thing,” Dr. Mahesh Raju, a cardiologist at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, said in the statement.
