Burglars targeting Northwest Side homes

(Chicago)  Police are warning Northwest Side residents of a series of home burglaries in February.

At least one person breaks into homes through a window or door, and steals electronics, jewelry, cash and other items, according to a community alert issued by Chicago Police.

The burglaries happened in:

—5800 block of West Eastwood between 12-11 a.m. on Feb. 9;

—5600 block of West Eastwood between 12:40-2:50 p.m. on Feb. 12;

—5700 block of North Manton between 11 a.m. -7:30 p.m. on Feb. 13; and

—5900 block of North Nagle between 1-6 p.m. on Feb. 18.

Police advise residents to make sure all doors and windows are locked, and to pay attention to anyone suspicious loitering in the area.

Police warn of garage burglaries on Northwest Side

(CHICAGO) Police are cautioning residents of several Northwest Side neighborhoods after several garage burglaries have been reported in the last month.

According to an alert from Area North detectives, the burglaries occurred:

-About 11:52 p.m. on Jan. 15 in the 4900 block of North Tripp;

-Between 5:45 p.m. Jan. 15 and 1:30 a.m. Jan. 16 in the 3500 block of North Kilpatrick;

-Between 12 a.m. and 6:35 a.m. on Feb. 8 in the 3800 block of North Lawndale;

-Between 11 p.m. Feb. 14 and 10 a.m. Feb. 15 in the 3700 block of North Central Park;

-Between 7 p.m. Feb. 14 and 4:15 p.m. Feb. 15 in the 4000 block of North Harding;

-Between 11 p.m. Feb. 15 and 4 a.m. Feb. 16 in the 3900 block of North Kimball

In each burglary, an “unknown vehicle is used to force open” the overhead garage door and suspects take property from inside, police said. In two cases, the overhead door was damage, but no property was taken.

No description of suspects was available, but a black minivan was seen driving down the alley away from a damaged garage in one of the burglaries, police said.

Police issue alert after NW Side convenience store robberies

(Chicago)  Police are warning Northwest Side businesses after several recent convenience store robberies in the Austin, Montclare and Avondale neighborhoods.

In multiple reported robberies between December and January, robbers either implied or displayed a weapon and stole cash or cartons of cigarettes, according to a business alert from Chicago Police.

In two of the robberies, two men started a conversation with an employee and then one of them walked behind the counter, implied he had a weapon and then stole cartons of cigarettes, police said.

A similar scenario occurred in two other robberies, but the suspects displayed a handgun and demanded money from the cash register.

The robberies occurred:

– Dec. 7, 3:20 a.m. in the 6800 block of West North Avenue;

– Jan. 3, 9:12 p.m. in the 2700 block of North Harlem;

– Jan. 8, 1:25 p.m. and Jan. 13, 9:40 a.m. both in the 2900 block of North Pulaski.

In the North Avenue and Harlem robberies, one suspect was a white, 28 to 35-year-old man, 6-foot-1 and 170 to 190-pounds, police said. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.

The other suspect was a 30 to 36-year-old black man, about 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-2, 220 to 250-pounds with a dark complexion, police said. He was wearing a black, fur lined jacket and black jeans.

In the Pulaski robberies, one suspect was a 20 to 30-year-old man, about 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds with blond hair, police said. He was wielding a handgun and wearing a partial face mask and hooded green jacket with blue jeans.
