Ex-State Rep Sandack Resigned After Inappropriate Chats and Extortion Attempts

Ex-state Rep. Ron Sandack raised a lot of questions when high profile social media user suddenly closed his Twitter account in July. He soon resigned citing that politics had gotten “too ugly.”

Finally on Friday, his constituents got the answers. Due to a police report and a statement from Sandack himself, the ex-Rep admitted he left office amid an extortion scam where he wired money internationally after engaging in “inappropriate online conversations” with a woman he met online.

“This past July, I was the target of an international crime ring focusing on high-profile individuals luring them to engage in inappropriate online conversations with the the intent of extortion,” Sandack said. “I too their bait and fell for it hook, line and sinker.”

Illinois appears poised to enter a second year without a budget. Lawmakers finished their legislative session Tuesday without agreement on a spending plan, setting up a November electoral showdown while public schools and social service providers brace for an uncertain future. Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner’s suggestion for a last-minute, short-term budget to give the state some near-term stability amid the 11-month impasse also failed to gain traction with Democrats.

Illinois may increase income taxes on wealthy

By John Dempsey, WLS-AM News

(CHICAGO) Illinois House Democrats are considering a plan that would increase state income taxes on the wealthy.

The plan would scrap the state’s current flat income tax of 3.75 percent, and increase the rates 9.75 percent for those earning more than $1 million.

Downers Grove Republican State Representative Ron Sandack told “The Big John Howell Show” on WLS the plan is a bad idea that will drive citizens out of Illinois.

Listen to Representative Sandack with Big John Howell on WLS-AM 890:

“Why would a high earner want to stay in Illinois if they could ply their trade over the border in Wisconsin or Indiana?  We can’t keep taking more money from a diminishing population and expect prosperity to follow.”

The plan is expected to be brought up for consideration in the Illinois House on Wednesday.

The proposal would change the Illinois Constitution so people would be taxed based on their earnings.

Democrats hold majorities in both the Illinois House and Senate.
